Re-rendering our stimuli

The archive linked to below contains two directories, SphereStimuli and SoccerStimuli, that may be used to re-render a subset of stimuli used in the experiments. The archives are set up to be run using the RenderToolbox, which you must install first. See the RenderToolbox web site for downloads and installation instructions. Once the RenderToolbox is installed, simply run the routine Render_BatchRender from the Matlab prompt in each of the directories to render the set of stimuli specified.

Each directory contains subdirectories that allow comparision of the rendered files with the actual images used in the experiment. There are some small discrepancies between our current renderings and the experimental images. We attribute these to changes primarily to changes in the Radiance software since we originally rendered the image. The comparisons included in the archive document differences in Radiance's renderings, both across versions and between renderings produced on different computers (Linux, Mac OS/X) with the same version. These across architecture differences are similar in magnitude to the differences between the original experimental images and those we can reproduce now with at least one version of Radiance.

The README.txt file at the top level of the archive provides information about what is in each directory as well as a description of the comparisons. The directories also contain Maya modeling files which were used to produce the Radiance scene specifications and archives of different versions of the Radiance software.
